The story you are about to read is my personal story. It may sound too good to be true to some of you, but it is true. It happened!
The incident happened when I was starting a small graphic design business and serving as a full-time pastor in a local church. As a young couple, we were in a challenging season financially. We didn't have regular incomes and starting a business is not easy.
One day, the Spirit of God prompted me to act by faith. God told me to create a simple budgeting system using envelopes. I wrote on each envelope various areas which He wants me to give, by faith. These were the areas which the Lord told me to set aside money for:
- 10% for tithe
- 10% for offerings
- 10% for parents
- 10% for investment
- 60% for household, children's education, miscellaneous
Cognitively I knew this is an impossible task because I don't even have regular income to support my family. Nevertheless, I obeyed.
A few days later, I felt led to treat my friend to lunch. I took my family, my sister-in-law and a friend out for lunch. We were hoping to find a parking lot on one of the busiest streets during the peak hour of the day. We drove around for almost 20 minutes and, finally we noticed a car that just left the parking lot, and we parked our car.
Immediately I heard my sister-in-law shouted, "Hey Caleb, you dropped your cash!" I was caught by surprise because I just stepped off the car and I knew it wasn't mine. I bent and picked the first note of $50. I saw many more flew out from under my car. A few more $50 landed in the middle of the street. Amazingly, the road was empty; there were no vehicles and no other pedestrian around me. It was as though everyone disappeared within seconds! At that moment, I went around collecting a few $50 notes, and in total, I received $700 from underneath my car. What a miracle! God's provision didn't stop here.
In the following two weeks, God continued to surprise us with blessings from various people in unexpected ways. The bible says in Galatians 6:7 New International Version (NIV) "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." Let us start to sow today and see the seed grow into a great harvest. For all that we sow, we will reap.
