Week 11: Christmas foods and meal plan

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. – James 1:17

The week before Christmas. A week where all the last minute shopping and rushing gets done. But hopefully, we do not need to be in a rush. So instead, let us make this week a week of preparation and readiness. Planning is essential to help us get ready and save time.

Let’s talk about food! Preparing the meals is one of my priorities as a mom, especially during this busy season. In addition, there are Christmas potlucks and parties to host, which requires meal planning. However, if I plan well and get some meal preparations done, I am set to enjoy the rest of the time.

Let’s start by listing all the parties you or your family are hosting or attending that require you to bring a dish. Next, add the foods you would like to prepare for that event. Listing the foods to the events would help you make sure you have enough time to prepare the dish, especially if you will be hosting an event the day after or that day itself. You should consider simple foods that require less preparation or cooking time if your family has a few occasions to attend.

Once that is done, start a grocery list and add all the ingredients you will need to purchase. Try to buy your ingredients earlier if possible to avoid them being out of stock. Buy and keep the supplies in the pantry. Double-check your pantry to make sure you got all your ingredients ready for every event.

Now, you are well prepared and ready to cook! If you have the freezer space, meal prep can reduce the cooking time by half. First, you can pre-cook some of the meals and freeze them. Then, just before the event, reheat the food, and it’s ready to be served.

Apart from party meals, it can be helpful to plan the meals for the week, especially Christmas week. Weekly meal planning will reduce the last-minute fast foods and takeaways. In addition, reduce your stress by planning and preparing meals and spending more time with family and friends.

Lastly, have plenty of snacks and drinks ready to enjoy!

Have a very Merry Christmas!
