My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws.
Psalm 119:120
The song comes to my mind, ‘I stand with arms high and heart abandoned, in awe…’. We just might sing this song this weekend. Standing is a simple expression of worship and in the presence of God. At weddings, the people stand to welcome the bride. It is an act of honour and respect. Similarly, we stand to welcome the King of Kings. We stand to usher Him into our midst. We stand in His presence, before His throne and to worship Him.
Once I saw a movie of a disabled man on crutches trying his best to stand in honour. Even though he is excused from standing because of his condition, he wanted to rise to honour someone dear and special to him. Despite his pain and inconvenience, he pushed himself to make that stand. When I watched him struggle to make a stand, I realized how blessed I am. Since then every time I feel like standing during worship, I will remember this man’s struggle to make his stand, and I stand in an instant.
Action
Ever you feel like standing in worship, feel free to stand. Even at home, during your personal time, you can stand and pray or worship.
Let’s pray
Dear Lord, thank you for giving us the ability to stand before You. It is a privilege to honour You and to be in Your presence. Lord, continue to fill us with the Holy Spirit. Help us to be more aware of Your presences with us. Teach us to be sensitive to the leading of Your Spirit. We commit this day in Your loving hands. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
